When you DO get covid - what's next?

Post new topic

PhilRes
Hey,

A friend just emailed me from hotel in HCM, while just visiting Viet this week - symptoms and tested yesterday +.

I have no handle on how Viet will deal with that  - in a good hotel, says a clinic next door.

He not have bad symptoms but fever, etc., so  prep for worse here and also knowing the antivirals need to be taken asap to be effective.

Very long term expats with ++ experience, I just checking:

1. any Gov't interventions to anticipate
2. how hotel may deal with an infected guest
3. Paxlovid available there? (looks like yes - hard to get?)

Fully vaxed, etc., so really just a "what if" from those of you on the ground?

Depends on strain if its the latest then its like a mild flu runny nose, sore throat, cough.

Better in 2-3 days.

If its the first omicron strain maybe up to 5 days.

Deta is the bad one up to 20+ days.

Ive had 3 vac + 1 Delta, 2x Omicron.

Panadol, plenty water, cough lozenges is what I took for Omicron.

Gov didnt do anything or didnt want to know in our case, if new arrival will be in Hotel and fed & given meds, let out when test neg.
Our boys also have all had 2 lots of Omicron (which is how I got it) they were told go home from school for a week each time.

The hype is much bigger than the symptoms & effects IMO.

@PhilRes If I was infected like your friend, I would follow Dr Peter McCullough's "Early treatment at home" protocol ... ... I believe he has it figured out pretty well.

It's a cold. Deal with it as you always have. Lemsip, whiskey, blow your nose as needed.

Yeah right. A friend of mine just got over covid and said its nothing like a cold. She said she felt like death.

@Brick23 -- No, it's not at all, given the greater likelihood of serious complications with even the latest variants and the possibility of long covid.  It is not a good thing to post false Covid information.

My questions would be;
how does he know he has covid (tested where, and why?),
how would the health officials know,
how would the hotel know?

JFC!

Admin won't allow COVID debates to start again, no matter if the info is righteous or bogus.

The main point the OP wants to know is what will be the response of the government and/or the hotel.

If people don't know the answer to that, keep your COVID drama to yourself.

Hello everyone,

The OP questions are as follows :

Very long term expats with ++ experience, I just checking:

1. any Gov't interventions to anticipate
2. how hotel may deal with an infected guest
3. Paxlovid available there? (looks like yes - hard to get?)

Fully vaxed, etc., so really just a "what if" from those of you on the ground?

I think we should do our best to provide him some insights.

Thank you,
Bhavna

Maybe he's still waiting for on point answers to his specific questions:

1. any Gov't interventions to anticipate
2. how hotel may deal with an infected guest
3. Paxlovid available there? (looks like yes - hard to get?)
;);)

Seriously?

You basically told him to ask different questions.

A common practice for many in this forum.

Fair point. My fault for not phrasing my questions correctly.

What  I wanted to know, prior to offering a response to Philres's questions, was;

Was the test performed at a clinic which reports directly to the VN authorities, or was it at a private walk-in clinic (quick in-out, no requirement for PP, domain, etc)?
Was the testing a requirement of the VN gov't, post entry to VN?
If not, was it a test his friend required for further travel?
If at a private clinic, with the intent of receiving a negative test result for further travel, was the test a RAT, or a PCR test? RATs have a higher incidence of false positives than do PCR tests performed with a threshold cycle of 25 or less. If a RAT, has the friend tried a second test and gotten the same results?
Was it the hotel staff who, perhaps noticing the friend's ill health, insisted on the test being performed?

Prior to knowing the answer to these questions, I'm hesitant to offer my opinion on his concerns.

I doubt that PhilRes is sanooku, though you're probably better at these things than I.

Hopefully Sanooku is currently residing at this hospital ( Viện Pháp y tâm thần Trung ương Biên Hòa) and wearing his special white jacket with the straps at the rear.
