@cccmedia You can say most of the same things about Pereira plus you can fly in and out without going through Bogota.

nico peligro

I lived there 3 years.

Not as clean or friendly as Manizales

But better climate..less rain anyways

And has an airport right there, though sometimes it is closed as well, as it is up high above the city on a plateau

Lots of social/sports clubs and things to do there.

Lots of interesting and beautiful places to visit around Santander

A check of the fares-consolidator CheapoAir.com

shows non-stop flights from Miami, FL, area

airports to Pereira (PEI) on American and Spirit Air,

one flight per day, on October 12 and 13.

No stopping or changing planes in Bogotá is

involved.

Flightsfrom.com shows Pereira has direct flights to Panama city with a travel time of 1 hour and 25 minutes vs 3 hours plus to Miami.  If someone needed to "escape" temporarily, wouldn't that be an excellent destination with casinos/pools or does the heat make it unbearable, and therefore Lima Peru is preferable, despite the longer travel time and more expensive flights?

Good questions, Mr. Barley.

-- Panama City:  yessir, it's out .. due to heat/humidity.

Chiriquí province has cooler weather, but the logistics

are poor:  the blackjack is 45 minutes away in David

(dah-BEED);  travel between Panama City and the

bearable part of that province is a schlep.  David is

even hotter than the capital.

-- The Coffee Zone could work.  I've connected enough

times through Bogotá including last week (Buca-Quito)

that travel to Armenia, my favorite of the

Coffee Capitals, is a good option if needed.

-- Lima is even better.  More table-games casinos.

Direct, non-stop flights.  I don't like the hot weather

in the desert city during January-April.  But it makes

sense the rest of the year.  A side trip to Arequipa,

Peru, might be indicated during Lima's unfavorable

weather months.

-- Medellín is also worth mentioning.
