I hope to order car from a japanese site as opposed to buying one on the island. has anyone done this before? is it a crazy cost to clear the vehicle through customs?

done it before, you need a customs broker to clear it through customs.
its like $550 to clear but you'll get stung in shipping and duty so do the maths to see if it makes sense as there were a load of cars just imported which should be priced sensibly e.g. only a small mark up.
