Samuel Murez, Paris Opera Ballet's "enfant terrible" is back in Geneva with "Dérèglements" ("Misrule"), his thrilling new work, a genre-bending meld of virtuoso ballet, powerful physical theater, rapid-fire wordplay and cutting-edge contemporary dance.

Murez' troupe 3e étage, which features some of the most brilliant and distinctive dancers of the Paris Opera, performed his "Désordres" ("Disorders") to a sold-out BFM in 2016, and many elements - the technical mastery, mordant wit and stunning lighting, the repeating motifs of virtuosity, individuality, and convention vs. transgression - should be familiar to returning spectators. New throughlines have also appeared : the relationship of art to power, the obsession over form, the boundary between fiction and lies...
First and foremost though, "Dérèglements" embodies the unique blend of excellence and fun, virtuosity and self-deprecating humor that has become 3e étage's signature, to the delight of audiences and critics alike.
