The Gato Pima recipe

Mauritian cuisine would not really be Mauritian cuisine if it was not for Gato Pima. These snacks, made with yellow split peas, are a must-try. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients:

For 30 Gato Pima

400g split peas (dholl)

1 teaspoon ground cumin

A packet of onion tail

Three pinches of salt

Coriander

Chilli (if any)

Preparation:

-Soak the peas overnight

-Mash the peas by hand or in a blender to obtain a puree

-In a bowl, add the herbs, salt, cumin and chili if you wish

-Mix well

-Form small balls with the paste

-Dip in hot oil until the balls are golden brown
