Activities for children in Mauritius during the holidays

Written byLiza Bonneon 28 July 2021

If your kids are enrolled in a private island school, chances are they are on vacation right now. Meanwhile, work and life is in full swing following the lockdown hiatus and it's still a bit of a blur on public activities for children... Here's how to keep your little ones busy during these holidays.

Playdates with their buddies

It is not always easy to trust a workshop or a children's class at the gym as cases of COVID-19 continue to climb in Mauritius. So if you'd rather keep your kids in sight and limit their contact, invite a few of their classmates over to your house for a snack and organize a few games. With other parents, you can even arrange for you to take turns babysitting, which should give you a little more freedom and, above all, the peace of mind of knowing that your children are in good hands. Plus, your kids must have been longing for this sense of normalcy after months of limited social interactions.

Learn a skill

Cooking, sewing or playing an instrument ... What better way to keep your child busy

during the holidays. Of course, make sure it's fun for the kid. Ask him for his opinion or even if he would like to do a specific activity or learn a specific skill. Children must feel comfortable in what they are doing to fully benefit from it. Once decided, ask yourself the question of online or face-to-face lessons. These days, some parents want to limit their children's outings. If you are one of those people, there is an online alternative for everything these days. Do a little research on Facebook, Google or a little request in your parent group and you're good to go. The advantage of online courses is that you are not geographically limited.

Play and have fun

It's true that kids are screen and tech giants. But what do you say about a return to the good old board games? Monopoly, card games, ludo, dominoes… maybe it's time you teach them to your children. So, get these games and have fun with your little ones. Once mastered, they will even play with each other and you can go about your business.

Getting in touch with their creative side

How about registering your child for dance, painting, singing or theater workshops? It is true that it is difficult to find them online in Mauritius, but you can always turn to teachers who are abroad. If you don't mind face-to-face lessons, what are you waiting for to find a dance or painting school for your children? Many painters offer workshops for children such as the painter Lutfiyah Nanhuck and her workshop at Nefeli studios.

Playing sports

Is there a sport that your child particularly enjoys at school? Swimming, running, or volleyball? If so, why not continue down this path and help him develop his talent during the holidays. The swimming pools are open as well as the sports halls. Do not hesitate to contact the coaches and make sure that the sanitary measures are respected on the spot.
