Published on 07 April 2022

Next to the Saint Pierre church, in the center of Moka, a roadsign shows the direction for Les Mariannes. This small village is a dot on the map of Mauritius, but it remains a must-see and a must-feel.

A day spent in this village is a huge breath of fresh air, as nature is omnipresent there. Located right next to the picturesque village of Congomah, Les Mariannes is, it seems, a place where time is at a stand still.

The fertile lands of this region of the island mean it is perfect for agriculture and farming. But the cows who live in Les Mariannes do not supply a big dairy industry and are not killed in hundreds for their meat but for the fresh milk that the calves and locals alike can enjoy.

Moreover, this part of the country is known for its vast green lands. The sugarcane plantations surrounding the La Nicolière reservoir but also the smallest vegetable growers, nestled under the hills and their friendly shacks. There is also a forest home to friendly and curious primates.

The small village of Mariannes is often a place of . And it lends itself well to it since this village calls for a total disconnection. Many Mauritians, moreover, want to treat themselves to a little green getaway, within Les Mariannes Wellness Center. As its name suggests, this center offers fitness activities.
