This week, Expat.com brings you the recipe for delicious taro root fritters also known as ‘gato arouy'. You will never want to eat anything else.

Ingredients

600g of taro (about 5 to 6 depending on the size)

2 slices of bread

2 tablespoons of sugar

1 teaspoon of ground ginger

1 teaspoon of salt

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon of soy sauce

Preparation

Peel and grate the taro.

Remove the crust and moisten the bread and crush it before mixing in the grated taro.

Then add the rest of the ingredients and mix.

Shape into balls with your hands or with two teaspoons.

Heat the oil in your deep fryer. You can simply heat some oil in a pan if you don't have a deep fryer.

Dip the taro balls in the fryer as you go.

Cook until crispy and golden brown.

You can serve the fritters for an aperitif or as an appetizer with a chili. Enjoy your meal!
