Dubai has been one of the world's largest and fastest-growing metropolises over the last decade. Every year, the best restaurants, beaches, museums, art centers, and more appear in Dubai. Overall, the UAE is considered one of the safest countries in the world. Students especially choose to study in Dubai due to the safety and comfort it provides. How does it feel to be a student in such a modern city like Dubai?

Student accommodation in Dubai

Some universities in Dubai offer students a cost-effective living option. While others don't, they do suggest some companies that could assist with those inquiries, such as Castia. Keep in mind that student accommodation is only meant for students, so you cannot live there with family. If your family is planning to move with you to the UAE, it's best to rent an apartment. Usually, you can find studios, one-, two-, or three-bedroom apartments, etc. Prices vary according to the type of accommodation and the location. If you choose university accommodation, most of them provide buses. If you prefer driving, first you need to have a local or international driving license and then get it converted if required.

If your university provides student accommodation, you can expect to pay around AED 4,500 per month for a single studio or AED 2,400 per month if you're sharing a twin studio. If you're looking for student accommodation outside of what the university provides, you can find a shared room for AED 2,000 a month.

Leisure activities in Dubai

Most universities in Dubai offer recreational facilities, including tennis courts, gaming areas, entertainment rooms, etc. There are also many student clubs with different interests where you can socialize and make new friends. If you want to spend time outside the university campus, Dubai offers a wide range of entertainment, such as beaches, parks, museums, restaurants, and more. The most famous beaches in Dubai are JBR, Kite Beach, and La Mer. All three provide water activities and many cafés with different cuisines. Some universities even organize yacht parties, picnics, and gatherings where students can relax and get to know more about each other in a different environment.

Cost of living in Dubai

If you are looking to live on your own, you should know that the cost of living will be higher than in university accommodation, for example. The average rent price of a studio is AED 40,000 to 85,000 per year, depending on the location you choose. A one-bedroom apartment could cost around AED 60,000 per year and 90,000 per year for a two-bedroom apartment. The first thing to consider is the location of the apartment and the distance from the university. The price for an apartment near the metro or closer to the downtown area, for example, is slightly higher than in other areas. You can also manage your budget when it comes to food, as some supermarkets offer “daily meals”, which would often be priced lower than ordering from restaurants. The best way to save money on food would be to cook at home, and grocery spending can also be reduced if you shop at Union Coop (local grocery store) rather than a Carrefour or Waitrose. It will not only ease your budget but also keep you healthier. As for getting around, it might take time to arrange for a car and get your driver's license in order, but public transportation in the city is quite affordable. You can opt for the regular Hala Taxis through the Careem App (which is a lot cheaper than what you would usually get on Uber) or use the metro system where you can get a 50% discount with your student NOL card.
