The Solomon Islands comprise six main islands and over 900 small islands. The country's capital is the city of Honiara situated on the main island of Guadalcanal. Other major islands include Choiseul, Malaita, San Cristobal, Santa Cruz Islands, and Santa Isabel. The islands cover the area of 28,400 square kilometres and are home to 606,215 people, the majority of whom belong to the Melanesian ethnicity. English is the official language but Melanesian Pidgin is spoken widely ' plus, there are some 120 indigenous languages.
The island's' economy relies mostly on farming and fishing, and these two sectors employ the majority of the population. Tourism is a significant industry as well, mostly diving, but the lack of infrastructure limits its further development. With that said, some travellers find the lack of amenities well compensated by untouched nature and the absence of crowds.

The Solomon Islands have managed to preserve most of their traditions and authentic charm, and are a great spot for eco-tourism. You will not find many high-end resorts in the area but there are guesthouses and all the facilities needed for a comfortable stay. The islands are of stunning natural diversity.
