Homebirth in Nairobi by emblyd

Hi all I'm looking at what midwifery support you can get for pregnancy. Coming from the UK I don't see the need to see an obstetrician/gynecologist unless there are problems (I am a midwife myself), so would prefer midwife led care and a ...

I was going to suggest eve's mama as well. They have a birthing centre and will do home births as well (they can even bring the birthing pool). Read More

Healthcare in Kenya by Julien

Hi, how does the healthcare system work in Kenya ? Is it efficient ? What are the main differences between public and private sectors? Is it recommended to purchase private health insurance in Kenya? Thanks in advance for sharing your ...

tracymhall

Hmmmm...health-care in Kenya is a big topic. From my experience I prefer private than public just because of the conditions. The public hospitals tend to have massive lines, lots of people, poor sanitary environments, and they don't seem like ... Read More

visa extension by steviewonder510

Hi.I am in Kenya at the moment and I want to extend my visa. I live with my Fiancee in Nairobi but travel on a tourist visa as residency costs are a joke and its cheaper to travel that way in the long term. My existing visa runs out on 11th March. ...

tracymhall

I also think you can extend your visitors visa however many times you want. I used to do it several times before getting married. Actually, I got tired of the leaving and coming and because we were engaged (and I was pregnant), we eloped and got ... Read More

Having a baby in Nairobi by LDNtoNBO

My husband and I are relocating to Nairobi from the UK in April/May when I will be five months pregnant. I would be really interested in anyone's views on a few points that we are thinking about: - advice on healthcare facilities in Nairobi, ...

I am about to give birth my 3rd time in Kenya. Be really careful, because they make money doing c-sections and will lie to you to force you into one. There is a hospital called Royal Gardens Hospital and I believe they do water births even...might ... Read More

Silicone cake tin by mariam139

Where can you buy silicone cake tin any good shops where you can buy baking related things?

tracymhall

There is a good baking shop in junction mall (the entrance closest to nakumatt, first store on the right as you enter in). They have pretty much everything I have needed; love it in there. I've seen silicone things in there for sure but I'm ... Read More

Obgyn in Nairobi by NYC_girl

Dr. Kigen 0722774991. He practices in Nairobi Hospital and is the head of all obgyns in Kenya, I am told. I have never seen him personally but have been referred several times to him. I have seen Dr. Acharya in Mombasa Hospital. He is the best I ... Read More

Translation please.. by kimmyco

Is there someone here who speaks Swahili that can translate to English for me? Many Thanks in advance K

tracymhall

It sounds like he is admitting sending you the message? Am I wrong about that? There is no love in that message, and he is lying if he says it is, it isn't a nice message. We can all understand it, so it isn't any other language and I think ... Read More

tracymhall

Sorry if I confused you K. The message IS Swahili, it's just not "proper" Swahili. It is just that it is using some sheng (which is a made-up english/swahili language people use in the streets). Hope that clarifies it. Read More

It's not proper swahili - there is street words and shang there making it a hard sentence to understand. Mbao is swahili for timber but is also a street word for score. In this instance it seems as though he/she is saying you hit him/her with a ... Read More

Did you find a translation? In case you haven't, it means "to hit me". Not physically hit, but like you've hit someone with a surprise or a shock. As if you have done something to them like lie to them or cheat them; something to ... Read More

Is my Kenyan girl genuine? by Cjsmith

I've met and fallen for a beautiful Kenyan lady that I met online. We chat all the time on whatsapp and I've spoken to her on the phone. I'm a Christian and I believe she's God fearing too. I'm planning on meeting her in Kenya ...

I agree with other posters, I hate travelling to Nairobi over other places in Kenya - its like a whole other set of safety rules unless you can live in a Karen or Runda bubble during your stay. Especially if you're used to European living. I ... Read More
