How to get NLV if you don't have an apartment yet by Renoit

We aren't moving until Feb 2025 and realtors in Spain say nothing is going to be available for that time-frame until January. But NLV takes 3 months to process so what can I do? Help please.

BlueMoonx47

We took a trip to make sure we wanted to live where we had picked (we did) and rented a furnished apartment. It was 5 months from lease sign to arrival. In retrospect, knowing what I know now, I would have rented a bare bones cheap but ... Read More

BlueMoonx47

I believe that you rent you only need a NIE (which is a tax id number, NOT a visa. Although it appears as the unique identifier on a tarjeta de residencia.Prior to getting our NLV, we rented an apartment so that we could submit our application with ... Read More

US elections & your expat life (testimonies) by Ameerah Arjanee

Hi everyone. I’m a content writer for Expat Magazine, and we are planning on writing an article about what American expats abroad (and non-American expats living in the US) think about the upcoming presidential elections. How do you think the ...

I will remind those who are terrified of Trump ;that we already know much of his behaviouor. And we survived. We may not like it, but we survived, and the good news is (at least one can hope), this is it. No more terms. What I observe are the ... Read More

We came here before Trump was elected. From our perspective, because we are here, it made no difference at all between Obama, Trump, and Biden. Exactly what one would expect, when living in a different country. I will say that the typical Spanish ... Read More

Retiring in Spain, from US, into an RV by jfranknichols

Hello,We’ve officially started the process of retiring in Spain from the US (Florida) and expect to leave here permanently in about six months, give or take a month or two.Our plan is for me to fly over first and purchase an RV (motorhome), ...

BlueMoonx47

Another thought for you:As a US passport holder, you can come to Europe/Spain for 90 days. Come for 90 days under that, no need for NIE, rent an RV, see what you can see in 90 days and then decide. If I were wanting to see lots of Spain, I would ... Read More

Taxes with NLV by Lole9

I am just starting to investigate the required taxes on retirement earnings with a NLV. It seems as though it may be over 30-35%. Has anyone found a way to be in a lower tax bracket? Thank you!

BlueMoonx47

There's a tax treaty between US and Spain, you may want to find a tax accountant who is familiar with this agreement and taxation of US expats. If you are on an NLV, in the first 5 years of the visa you can't leave the country for 183 days of the ... Read More

NLV vs Digital Nomad visas by Docx2

Not to be pedantic, but "writing a book", in itself, is not working. You need to sell that book in order for it to begin to be considered "working".I mention that because I came to Spain under an NLV. After 5 years, when I updated my visa, ... Read More

BlueMoonx47

@linsaywv I don't think that one renounces one's US citizenship at the Spain consulate or other government offices. This has to be done at a US facility. If involve filling out a form; paying an exit tax; and maybe some other things as well. Read More
