Hi, We helped our daughter and her family move to charente maritime in 2004, fell in love with the area, so we moved the next year about 20 mins away from her. We are in our late 70`s have no neighbours and our french is very limited cos we do not ...
Hi Barry, Well I hope your health improves for 2019., nothing is more important than your health, absolutely nothing as if you are not well you can't even take care of others! As for insulting foreigners! I do hope you manage to insult some of ... Read More
Walking/running guide by Scotathome
I was recently told by 2 people just moving to France that you need to be a qualified mountain guide just to lead people on low level country park type walks or runs. Can anyone shed light on this, thanks
I doubt it is accurate, or at least it is confused. There are qualified mountain guides and indeed have to have the qualification to lead groups in the mountains. For low level walks there are many walking clubs and though insurance and a medical ... Read More
Moving to Cholet in May 2019 by Ajnurse888
Bonjour! My husband and I are moving to Cholet next spring. He is being relocated with the Michelin company. We have been married four years this spring. We do not have children but we have two cats and two dogs that keep our household ...
Have a nice time in Cholet. May I make one suggestion? I really do mean it in the nicest possible way but if you want to improve your French then stay away from ex-pats like the plague!!! French people (who don't speak English) are very warm ... Read More

Hi Barry, First, I hope you had a merry Christmas and I wish you a happy New Year, whatever it brings! I have just got back from holiday and seen you last post so I apologise for a late reply. I find it sad that you say Britain ... Read More

Oh you can have the last word no matter how erudite!, no problem at all. Just interesting to see how your mind works! Will you remain in France after Brexit ? Do try to keep it civil or your posts are deleted and you're wasting your time. A ... Read More

Dating and finding love as an expat in France by Priscilla
Hello, With cultural barriers and different dating norms, finding love as an expat abroad can be exciting and challenging at the same time. Is it easy to meet other fellow single people in France? How do you go about meeting people ...
There is only one way to meet people! You have to make the effort; be it clubs, on line wherever. As for cultural differences: If you are from Asia there will be cultural differences but almost anywhere else the culture is similar so no problem. Is ... Read More
Driving license by pugs_hugs
Hi expat community! I am looking into getting my driver's license switched over to a french one, because I live here in France with a titre de séjour. They ask for proof that my american driver's license is STILL valid, that is ...
You simply have to get a statement from your licensing authority in the USA. stating that your licence is valid, no bans etc. In other words write to them explaining what you are trying to do. The licensing authority will almost certainly have done ... Read More
In retrospect, would you move again to France? by Christine
Hi all, If you had to look back on your expat experience in France, would you heartily say "lets do it again"? From the preparation stage to your actual everyday life in your new country, what did you enjoy the most? Would you do certain ...
A good and sensible post. In nutshell, do your research, make sure you have enough money and don't whinge as it will be your fault if it goes wrong! Read More

Thanks for your posts. I doubt we will ever agree on some points but feel there is a meeting point on others, can't be bad can it? I wish you well and maybe one day we can have that glass of wine. Have a nice day, ... Read More

A most interesting. post and answers many of my unasked questions. Personally I don't believe in Jesus or any God. So much of what you have written simply doesn't resonate with me. Everyman should be free to pursue his own direction, ... Read More

We are not going to agree, apart from some minor points. I happen to agree that the media is, generally pathetic. We would all like to see 'truth' and accuracy in reporting but it is a little naive to think that the media, either state ... Read More

As you have said, we have our own opinion. I disagree with your views but then it would be a strange world if we all agreed! You talk about rights but unfortunately the world we live in, as adults anyway, cannot simply afford 'rights' as a ... Read More

I don't suppose it has occurred to you that by being British (I presume you are?) the right and freedom to make the choices you have made are because of the freedoms granted you by the U.K. The U.K. you now so despise? In any event I disagree ... Read More
