2014 Update: My company now manufactures some products in Vietnam. I will be moving to Vietnam in June/July with my daughter and will help coordinate manufacturing. I will also be opening a small engineering firm and will look to hire Web/PHP Developers and Software Engineers; I will be doing contract work for my (what will be former) USA employer. Thanks again ... see you all soon. Born in the UK & emigrated to the US when I was 3. I grew up in NY but have lived in FL since the late 80's. I enjoy riding sport bikes, have raced a Formula 500 in SCCA and am currently building a 520hp/2300# AC Cobra replica (Factory Five kit). I also enjoy playing billiards and, strange as it may sound, love just driving around Vietnam on a scooter in traffic ... it's like being in a living sea, enveloped and surrounded ... my family there all think I'm nuts! I have traveled to Vietnam 7 times and have been as far south as Can Tho and north to Hanoi, although the majority of my time has been in HCMC and Bien Hoa. I first visited Vietnam in 2002 with Vietnamese friends that I had met via my work at Lazzara Yachts. I married my wife in HCMC in 2005 and she immigrated to the USA in late 2006. We had been planning to move to HCMC at the end of 2012, however she decided in April to file for divorce (complete surprise to me), so it looks like my relocation may be delayed. I still plan to relocate, however it may be delayed as our 4-1/2 year old daughter lives with me. I was the electrical engineer for Lazzara Yachts (designing complete AC/DC systems, lighting control, automation, ship's systems, etc.) and now am the designer for a home automation company (home theaters, lighting control, security, CCTV, etc.). I design in 2D using AutoCad, 3D using Rhino3D and Solidworks. If you know of any opportunities in Vietnam for these skills, please let me know. I am also the co-owner of Inpromaco, an Innovative Products Marketing Company (www.inpromaco.com). We have recently begun importing our first product from China for marketing to the USA. as this product comes online, we intend to find additional products, hopefully from Vietnam, to import/market in the USA. Part of our plan is for me to live in Asia and 'source' products. Well, that's probably enough about me (to bore you to tears) ... Take care all and hope to be in HCMC eventually.
I joined expat.com on 01 July 2012.
I have visited Vietnam 10 times since 2002. I am looking forward to moving there very soon.
I love the people, the traffic (yes ... I am strange), the sites, the smells and the living/breathing 'life' of the city.
