Retire to Crete by josieirving21

Hi,we are looking to rent long term in Maleme area near Chania. Few questions, can we buy a decent car for about €6000? How much is car insurance roughly? anyone out there pay for private medical insurance? Is it necessary and how much?My hubby ...

Nicholas

@josieirving21 hi there, no, it is not necessary to have private insurance in Greece, but that relegates you to the public system, which I would not recommend. if you are a resident of the EU, you are entitled to care in the public system, if not, ... Read More

@tarmac Greece in not the UK. The Gr.public Hcare system has apparently deteriorated a lot from what it was and is not a place you would choose to go if you could avoid it. it is presently geared for those that rely on government support and I am ... Read More

residence permit needed for buying car? by Matthijs49

Hi, a bit confused now... For buying a (new) car in Greece, do you need a residence permit if you are already a EU-national? Planning to buy one as soon as we have moved, and don't want to wait until we have obtained the residence permit. We do ...

Hi Eugene!, As an aside I wanted to thank you. This is very eye opening information. I was under the impression that being an EU citizen was similar to being a citizen of the USA. Moving from State to State is a private decision; there is no ... Read More

EU Schengen zone visa question. by Mobsterboss

Suppose one is a UK/US dual national. No Schengen visa is required for a UK national, per the 90/180 rule. Is it possible, as a US national, to obtain a Schengen area member visa in addition to the 90/180 allotment? Thanks for any help.

Nicholas

""Relevant to the issue of EU/Schengen travel vis-a-vis the 90/180 rule...."" ...presumably the whole point of your message. I still do not see the relevance of dual nationality, if said duality does not include an EU member ... Read More

According to this: https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/brits-overstaying-eus-90-180-days-rule-to-face-penalties/ ...there is no special exception to GB nationals!! The US related portion of the question was never relevant.... Why would there ... Read More

Funny question, the first one! I will try and answer but first, I'd like to the this opportunity and ask if any in this community have already been vaccinated against covid-19? I ask because in general expats are most likely not integrated into ... Read More
