What is it like crossing the border in Paraguay? by stevewoods
Can it ever be problematic? What sort of questions are asked? Also once I get the travel visa, even though it says I promise not to apply for residence, will they ask about this at the border? Will they deny me because of it?
I didn't have any problems- I actually never crossed the border or renewed my visa. I went to talk with migraciones and they told me it's cheaper to just pay the fine upon leaving the country rather than do the legal thing and renew it every few ... Read More

capelo- Really? Cheap furniture? I have not found that to be the case at all, where would you suggest? In the US we have so many places where we can get 2nd hand furniture for free or close to it. Here I saw a wreck of a table being sold for $50! I ... Read More
Changing Money by 9thWave
How does someone change money from Euros to Guarani when they first arrive at the Asuncion airport? I assume there is some type of money changer at the airport. Is it a machine or a person? What do I look for / what is it called? I'd imagine ...
Yes, you can change money at the airport, it will say ¨cambios.¨ I think Cambios Chaco is the one at the airport. After that you could go downtown, there´s a bunch of places on calle PALMA. Read More

For the process, it is basically as follow: - first go to a bank an open a bank account with at least 5,000 USD. this would help you prove you have sufficient funds on your application for residency. I recommend you Banco Vision for a saving ...
Does anyone know if the FBI check needs anything special to be done with it besides sending it to the PY Consulate afterwards? The paperwork I got from the embassy on the process states "the FBI'S CJIS Division will authenticate results... IF ... Read More
Health care in Paraguay by Yud
Hello everyone, One among the various issue that many expatriates usually raise is Health Care. So, I think it would be very interesting and helpful to start a topic about Health. > So, can you please list some of the private clinics & public ...
My son was born here in Paraguay. I went to La Cruz Roja for all of my pre-natal care, and he was born there as well. It is a public hospital, and each appointment cost me 5.000 (a dollar 25). If you need to do lab work or ultrasounds or get a ... Read More
experience with private health insurance? by wilf1
Has anyone got experience with private health insurance? Are there any? What clinics do they cover? Is dental care included? I've lived in Argentina before, all health services are free just like in Wales, but you have to pay the dentist ...
I think there are some private hospitals that really are not much different than the public ones. A friend who´s lived here many years has had poor experiences at La Costa (rudeness mostly) and recently had a good experience at the IPS in Asuncion, ... Read More
Multiple Entry Visa Changes by Zollie

majbjb mentioned the same thing I discovered. I was told it is cheaper to overstay my visa then to renew it. 174.000 to overstay, no matter how long (it used to be a fee per day of overstay) or 250.000 to renew it. I tried and tried to find out if ... Read More

Well, I know you don´t have to be a resident to go to a public hospital and be seen for free. You even get free meds. Of course you´ll have to wait 2 or 3 or more hours. But it´s free. As for insurance I can´t comment on that. Read More

Do and don't in Paraguay by expat.com
Are you living in Paraguay? We need you to share your experience of the local customs :) Is it difficult to adjust to the local customs in Paraguay? Could you please share with us a list of the do's and don't's in Paraguay? Thanks!
It gets hot! The winter is cold (in my opinion) mainly because there isn't (much) indoor heating and it's a humid cold, which means everything feels a bit damp. Another important point is that it might be very cold one day, and in the 70s the next. ... Read More

Well, I´ve been here over 2 weeks now, I guess it´s time I answer something! I took a large sum with me in a money belt, under $10,000, it was never any problem. I checked with the Aduana and under 10,000 USD is perfectly legit to admit without ... Read More
