US VA Transfer by GrayDog

Are there any Yanks on here who are receiving benefits from the US Veterans Administration? I need information reference banks in Indonesia that will function for the monthly pension payments.

John

Ubudian is correct. In addition, if the US Govt does send your pension check to an Indonesian bank, they will send you a post card every six months which you must sign and return within 30 days (of the date they send it out) or they will assume you ... Read More

Early retirement in Indonesia, my journey begins here... by GuestPoster54

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum and I have to confess it's really hard to choose on which section would be more appropriate to have this published once I have so many questions regarding moving to Indonesia in a near future. ...

John

If you plan to visit Bali in March of 2018, I would suggest you come up north to Singaraja. Plenty of hospitals, supermarkets, shops, etc. Singaraja population about 150,000. Lovina Beach is just to the west which is a resort area. Quite a few ... Read More

qualifications for retirement visa by CactusJoe44

I will be coming to Bali Jan, 23rd and staying at least 1 month at the D' Sri Saran Hotel in Seminyak. I am interested in obtaining a Retirement Visa but have 4 questions: 1. Does U. S . Medicare qualify as proof of Medical Insurance? 2. Would ...

John

CactusJoe44, 1. Read this article re Medicare: https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/travel-need-health-care-outside-us.html 2. A one year lease agreement at a hotel should work, but will likely be quite expensive. 3. Bali IDE is around $800 per ... Read More

Retiring in Indonesia by Priscilla

Hello everyone, Why did you choose to retire in Indonesia? What are the advantages compared with your home country? What were your main considerations when deciding to move? For example, taxes, ease of transferring your pension, etc.. Are ...

John

Thanks Fred. Is the $2,500 per month a typo? I thought it is $1,500. Include a serit domicile from chief of village. I am applying for KITAP this year and was told immigration now requires SKTT as part of application package. The proof of rent ... Read More

Dealing with homesickness in Indonesia by Priscilla

Hello everyone, Being an expat in Indonesia can turn out to be a wonderful human, social or professional adventure... with potential moments of nostalgia and homesickness along the way. What are your personal tips to prevent ...

John

I agree with Ubudian, no homesickness. I do return to the states to visit family once a year. The one thing I have done to stay in touch is to get a Magic Jack last time I was back there. If you activate it in your home country with an area code ... Read More

BPJS change of rules re foriegn pensioners ? by tel522

It seems foreigners on pension visa are now not being allowed access to bpjs , now only foreigners working here or married have access . I suppose its reasonable as the system is in deficit and supported by the indonesian government .

John

Well, I have already contributed. My point is that even if I was 'allowed' to participate in BPJS as a retiree my medical needs are not the same as a 30 y/o indonesian. I have my anual physical performed by my doctor when I am back in the ... Read More

I am here on a retired visa, and have been spending 9 plus months per year in Indonesia on a KITAS. In order to renew my KITAS every year, I must provide "proof of health insurance coverage". If I could just show immigration a BPJS card ... Read More

Environmental protection in Indonesia by Kenjee

Hi, Environmental protection is a challenging issue for all the countries around the world. Would you say this issue is deemed of significance in Indonesia? Is the country going green through initiatives like waste management and selective ...

John

I think the elephant in the environmental room now is water. The apparent loss of Bali's aquifer due to salt water intrusion is, or should be a major concern. The recient article "Tourism is killing tourism" brings the issue into ... Read More

Roy, the link you provided is based on the 1998 regulation modified in 2002. That information is old. The new regulation I quoted #31 of 2013 is the current information. Not an easy read, but very detailed as to the requirements. For example, a ... Read More

For retirement KITAS/KITAP there is no option to "do it yourself". You MUST have a specially licensed travel agent to be your "sponsor". As far as I can tell, there are only about 4 of these specially licensed agents in Bali. ... Read More
