Algarve expediter by ericpret

I am visiting Algarve (hotel is in Faro, but I am flexible as I have a rental car. I would like to meet an immigration expediter in that area or within perhaps 2 hours drive. I have sufficient income by a large margin and zero crime history. Can ...

Any ideas? My next choice is to ask the hotel concierge or the local police. It seems almost everyone in Portugal knows someone who does whatever legal thing you might want. Their interpersonal networking seems to be excellent. I am open to future ... Read More

Should I bring my car from U.s. to lisbon

My Prius is a 2014. It would cost me almost as much to buy the same 2014 car in PT as it would cost to buy a new 2019 in the US. Read More

COC for US vehicle by ericpret

I love my 2014 Toyota Prius. Buying the same in PT would cost far more than I paid new in US 2014. Is there a way to get a Portuguese Certificate of Compliance for this vehicle? If the cost is less than 10,000 Euros I would be ahead, and would not ...

TheBarryb, Thank you for the useful information. Since I have quite a few months I will pursue bringing the car up to spec. I will be exempt from the IVA. Even with shipping and a couple of thousand euros to change specs, I would be ahead. Buying a ... Read More

Destroy my Paradigms! Where should I live?

Since my first visit to Portugal (1996), I've been drawn here. Due to my career (mainframe computers), PT was never a wise fiscal decision. Retirement happened. I can leave US. I have some paradigms. I love the Lisbon area. I love the Porto ... Read More

Moving household goods to Portugal by psyteacher

I am interested in hearing from people who have moved to Portugal who had their household goods/furniture shipped. Is it cheaper to sell everything here in the U.S. and start over in Portugal or ship selective items to Portugal? Fern

ericpret

BTW I already have a quote for moving my furniture door to door from SC to Faro, The cost is less than buying equivalent or cheaper stuff from IKEA. It might not be cheaper for beds, but dining/living was much cheaper. Much depends upon whether you ... Read More

Good furniture in PT seems more expensive than in US. Antiques even more so. If you have decent furniture (i.e. better than IKEA), it is worth it to ship IF you have owned it outside of PT for more than 1 year. If you do not have receipts, ... Read More

Moving Wine Cellar by GuestPoster2367

I have looked into this. Without penalty or tax you can bring wine for 'a normal home wine rack'. My 400+ bottle rack is not considered 'normal'. I will drink a lot of wine before moving and move only the ones which are old and ... Read More

Purchasing a vechicle in Portugal by Wim Kay

From what I’ve seen secondhand cars are expensive in Portugal. Is it better to purchase new? Is finance available easily? Any info would be greatly appreciated !

PT used cars are more expensive than new in US. BUT.... If you try to bring in a non-EU vehicle it will be expensive or impossible due to a required document Certificate of Compliance. Some cars can be made eligible for a few hundred dollars, some ... Read More
