Old doodlebugger hanging out in the Arabian Desert. Here with the wife enjoying the cool breezes. Much less humidity than our home base in Houston, Texas!

Oil and Gas Exploration & Development Kuwait & northern Saudi
Wonderful malls and restaurants camel racing motorcycle racing secretive but excellent cultural amenities - classical and pop music, karaoke, etc (must dig and use social media - not advertised with signs and the newspapers!) Fishing and swimming in nice warm water (must be careful about pollution if not in pools)
Summer is infernally hot and humid also when rare winds from the Gulf. Kind of weird social hierarchy with lots of discrimination or at least rudeness. My wife and I didn't have any problems because I am a white man with an typical Arab nose and she a light-skinned African American. We just wore dishdashas and abayas and everybody thought we were Kuwaiti unless we opened our mouths. However, east Asians are treated very poorly as are working-class south Asians, especially if not Muslim. Professional Indians and Pakistanis treated sort of OK and Americans and Europeans pretty well - I guess as result of having rescued their oil revenue from Sadaam!
Oil and gas exploration for an American oil company.
Lively culture - music concerts, night clubs, karaoke, dance establishments. Good beer, friendly people with a great sense of humor. Close to American standard of living in the elite areas of time with good shopping.
At that time a brutal kleptocracy of a military dictatorship ran the currupt government. Poverty for the average person. Outside of the above-mentioned "elite areas" much poverty, ravanged infrastructure.
