Car being towed away

Hello all,

My car was towed away while I was abroad and my commune confirmed that the table that I shouldn't have parked was out while I was out of the country. I am writing to ask for you advice, or if anyone has experienced it.

I have asked some colleagues of mine and they said that each time it has happened to them, the police has called to notify.

I am so surprised that they didn't call to notify me to move the car or that it had been taken away (so I could pick it up without paying additional parking fee). I don't find this behaviour ethical since the commune and the police has all our contacts including email and mobile number. I would have expected a call.

Do you think I can do something to take my money back since I was more than 1 month away and the amount is considerable.

Have a good day everyone and looking forward to any feedback!
