Hello, I am looking for some information for an article about death abroad. How do the administrative issues work, the repatriation, and also the traditions and customs of the host country. I am waiting for your answers! Thank you :)

Since you you live in Rome Italy do what the Roman's do, order a Pizza with extra Pepperoni.

I think the answers you are looking for would depend on the country where the death happens and what if any medical insurance was purchased by the individual.

Well I arrived in Manila on November 2 which is 'All souls Day' and November the 1st is 'All Saints Day'. Two public holidays to celebrate the deceased. Filipinos worship the dead to the extent that they flock to the cemeteries of their loved ones during this period. I actually think its just an excuse for a piss up as the Philippine govt banned the use of liquor at these places as well as fire arms - presumably because the two don't go together. Yup I'd agree with that.

Like your home country of France the Philippines is predominantly Catholic yet doesn't, ahem, practise the values that the church espouses.

In terms of the administrative and repatriation issues it might be an idea to contact the French Embassy in Manila and maybe an Undertaker (Funeral Parlour to our American friends) too. :)

It appears that our OP is requesting information because she's writing an article. So far, we have not contributed much. I don't have any experience on her topic to contribute. Maybe that's a good thing...for me.
