Finding a place to live is a priority when settling in Puerto Rico. Your experience will be of a great help for the members who want to settle in Puerto Rico.

Therefore, we have prepared some questions for you:

Which kinds of accommodation are available in Puerto Rico?

Is it hard to find a flat or a house for rent in Puerto Rico?

How to find a home in Puerto Rico: classifieds, real estate portals, real estate agencies?

How much is the rental for a house, an apartment?

What are the formalities or the required documents for renting an accommodation?

Which advice would you give?

Thanks in advance for participating!

The best online resource for finding housing in Puerto Rico is the Clasificados Online website.

http://www.clasificadosonline.com/

The website sucks and it looks like it is stuck in the late 90s, but it is still the best available resource that you will find.

It is a for profit website so I hope that it doesn't get flagged as SPAM because it is incredibly useful.

clasificados is how we got our place. Be careful of the pictures included with some of the ads, they can be a bit deceiving.

thanks for your messages :)

Stay in our guest house and check out living as an expat!

Your suggestion sounds like a great way to explore PR.  I'm considering a move in the near future, but I want to spend a couple of weeks "looking around" before I can decide on the "where, when" etc.  Where is your home for rent located?  Price?  Availability in the fall months?

we are located in Dorado beach.  Its our private guest house.  We have 4 golf courses, a waterpark, private beach, fitness center, etc....

we charge $100 per night for a private room with King bed and sleeper sofa, private bathroom and refridgerator, tv/ac/cable...etc.

We also provide a golf cart to get around the property.  There are also numerous restaurants within the property too!

if you have any questions, let me know.

Excellent... Dorado is how far from SJ?  The accommodations sound perfect.  I'll be looking for a real estate agent to help find a rental... not going to buy right away... and Dorado is an area folks have highly recommended.  Thanks for the info.  I'll be in touch!

Hi, Dorado is only about 15-20 miles from san juan but the traffic is terrible!  They are building a new public transport system, but I'm not sure when it will be done.

However, we feel that living in a safe beachside community far outways the time in travel.  We looked in guaynabo, green hills, isla verde, but the rents were higher for smaller properties and no garden.  Now we have a beach, 4  pools, waterpark, 4 golf courses, 2 fitness centers, and world class restaurants all within walking distance.  They even built a casino around the corner.  And, in 2012, the only 7 star ritz carlton reserve will be finished with all its ammenities right here in our neighborhood!

we really wanted something that our kids can enjoy, but I think we (the parents) appreciate it more.  Plus, all the professionals live here.  so, if you need a doctor, or specialist, they all live in the neighborhood!  all the GMS, CEOs and COOs live here.  its a great place to network and there are a lot of transplants.

great for schools, medical, etc.  on the downside, not much shopping.

Looking to see what it would cost to rent a house in the Dorado area.  I need at least 3 bedrooms

Christine

Hi MarkOel,

I invite you to post an ad in the housing in Puerto Rico section.

Thank you,
Christine

Hi, It all depends on your budget and the neighborhood.  I can put you in contact with my realtor friend, Lisa Penfield

you can get dorado del mar for $2000 or less
Paseos $3000 - $5000
Sabanera $4000 +
Dorado beach $5000 +

per month

Dorado is only 30 miles from san juan, but depending on traffic can take an hour.  They are building a new super bus/lane.  not sure when it will be completed.  Soon I hope!  But it's worth it!  Beach side, safe, large expat community!  Not a lot of traffic.  Has everything you need.  Even has our own super walmart and casino!

(moderated: pls recommend in the business directory)

if I can help, let me know!

My wife Jennifer and I will be relocating to Cabo Rico in late June. I will be the new Postmaster of that city. I speak very little spanish. We have three children (Berkley 18, Madison 16 and Liam 13). We are very excited but also very nervous. Would you be willing to provide us with some advice or insight into what we can expect? Is it better to rent or buy a home? Private schools? Cars? Pets?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

wende

Hi,
I'm not very familiar with cabo rico, but if you can, rent a house if you are here short-term.  Buy a car here.  Moving cars back and forth to the states is difficult.  There are a number of English speaking schools.  The four best are
1. tasis dorado
2. dorado academy
3. st. johns
4. Baldwin

pets are always welcome.  or take in one of the many stray dogs here that desperately need a home.

hope this helps.

My husband and I live in Oklahoma and he will be retiring in 3.5 years.  We are planning on moving for about 6 months to PR.  We would like to rent a house or condo in the Aguadilla Isabela area.  Do you know of anyone that could help us find one.  We would like to come for a week in the near future to check the area out.  Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Nancy,

Not sure if you have already found accommodations but I have a home that I rent out.  If you would like to see it please visit it on homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p164460

Actually, we bought our home in 2007 with the plan to retire there someday. We try to get there 2-3 times per year but harder now that my son is playing sports.  I would recommend checking out all parts of the island before purchasing.  Once you know what you want you will need a realtor.   We have kept in touch with our realtor however he does not speak English.  He calls us from time to time to see if we want to sell or rent long term.  We don't rent long term because we want to use the house as well.

Good luck in your search!

Lisa
