My fiance and moving to DR (hopefully permanently) and plan to marry asap there.

I am British and she is Russian.

Am I correct in assuming that the documents required for a catholic marriage are:

For me:

1/ Certificate of previously dissolved marriage (8 years ago) which I have.

2/ Original birth certificate.

Both certificates need to be authenticated?

If I have certificate 1 I won't require a CNI (certificate of no impediment)?

My fiance:

1/ Birth certificate only (authenticated by apostille in Russia)?

Also, it would appear from what I read that a catholic marriage is easier than a civil marriage We are both Catholics.

I truly appreciate any advice, there's too much bad advice out there.

Best regards

Peter

I believe any documents required must also be translated into Spanish. I would suggest contacting the Catholic Church here directly to find out the requirements for them, as well as anything additional that might be required for the marriage to be legally recognized here.

Depending upon your country there are long and short forms of birth certificates. Get the long form which should include the names of the parents and the place of birth. These documents have to be translated and authenticated which should (if possible) be done by a Dominican consulate or embassy in the country the document originates in. Generally, if divorced they want the divorce certificate and they also want a document of sworn single status. The single status document could be created here in the DR but the divorce document(s) should take the same path as the birth certificate. Also, your passports and possibly a second document for your identification.

Before setting the date, speak with whoever will perform the ceremony (Judge or other) and ask them what documents are needed before hand and what documents the Judge can assist with if you don't have what the Judge is asking for. Different Judges may request different documents. Alternatively, involve a lawyer as they know the short cuts to getting these documents quickly. If you are not in a rush you can manage by yourself but it can be cumbersome.

Be prepared to not get back your original documents (birth certificate, divorce certificate and single status).
