We are looking at Cuenca, however open to other options

Kyle Macleod

Hello Everyone,

I am from South Africa, and looking to immigrate to Ecuador within the next few months.

It is myself (28), My partner(28), Our Daughter(5 Months) and son (6).

I am a Software Developer and My partner is a Freelance Writer.

Unfortunately the situation in South Africa, in terms of crime and gender based violence is getting bad and I fear for my kids safety growing up. Our best option now, is to find a suitable, affordable and safe place.

My partner has been fascinated with South America for as long as I can remember and we are finally looking to make the jump. I am looking at the professional visa, and most likely going to be working remote.

My partner, being the adventurous nomad, is ready to move tomorrow, whilst I , not so much of a risk taker, prefer to plan things probably and make sure I know what to expect.

We are looking at Cuenca, however open to other options.

I am looking to connect with some people, in hopes of hearing your stories and advise.

Once of my main concerns is the education of my kids - yes they still young but I think Long term.

What are the schools like?

I would love to hear from everyone.

Regards

Kyle

private schools $300+ will be alright but probably all spanish speaking (maybe some lessons in english). For English speaking schools, I am only aware of options in the $1000 plus range.

However, it is advised to at least visit the country before moving permanently. Cuenca is high and that can affect people. Do you speak Spanish?
