Maid services

SammyK05

Hi - we have recently arrived in Muscat and are a bit confused about employing a maid.

I have spent all morning 'googling' but am still non the wiser!

Are we allowed to employ a maid without sponsoring them ourselves.

I have heard that some maids have their own Omani sponsor (for a fee) who allows them to work and live in the expats accomodation?? is this legal?  If not what are the implications to us/the maid?

Also I cant find an agency online that provides part-time maids - again is this not allowed as there are many maids advertising themselves online as available for part-time work??

I have tried to look online at the Omani labour laws however it appears that many of the laws don't apply to domestic workers.

Finally, if we were to sponsor a maid would it have to be on a full time contract (as we would prefer part time) and what are the pitfalls of being a sponsor?

So many questions!!!!!  Any reply would be gratefully received.

Thank you.
