Questions about tax residence

xavierfreeman

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of setting up a company in Cyprus and I'm also looking at getting the permanent residency via investment.

My main issue, which I'm struggling to find any clear answers too, is about my tax residence. How long can I spend in England every year without exposing myself to paying tax in the UK? (After moving to Cyprus of course).

I realise that there is a minimum time spent in Cyprus of 60 days per year and a maximum of 183 days in any other state. But I have a feeling that if I spend 170 days in England the HMRC may come and knock on my door!

Has anyone got any experience in the matter?

Thanks in advance!

Since you had a question, I preferred opening a new topic on the Cyprus forum so that members could guide you.

Have you considered perhaps getting in touch with a Tax advisors in Cyprus to enquire ?

I recommend you do speak with a tax consultant in Cyprus who also knows the UK regulations. There are a few that can be recommended by people here. CC&A Michael Clayton-Gale (https://corporationcyprus.com/) is a UK accountant who also works out of Paphos. You can contact him or wait for some more recommendations. If you do contact Michael let him know I gave you his details.

Phil
