Non resident NIF and portuguese health insurance.

I do have a NIF and obviously D7 visa , currently waiting for my appointment with SEF for the residence card.The problem being the tax office will only update my non resident NIF to a resident NIF only after receiving the resident card( not sure if it can be done earlier). Now in order to have Portuguese seguro de saude, one needs a NIF. My understanding is prior to the interview SEF, I need to take out Portuguese Health insurance. But given that my NIF is a non resident one (still the address on it is the USA one), will it cause any problems when taking out Portuguese seguro de saude?
Also when it comes to seguro de saude - atleast the portugueses ones, they require NIF but will something like CIGNA or April international be accepted for SEF interview if indeed the non resident NIF will cause problems?
