Hi all,

First time posting on this so hoping someone here can give me some sensible advice.

To cut a long story short I'm a UK citizen currently based in England but fly back and forth to Bulgaria to be with my fiance who also happens to be pregnant with my baby.

My question is; is there a way I can stay in the country outside of my normal 90/180 day allowance to support her more on the physical side of things (i.e. I don't want her carrying heavy things ect.)

Before anyone asks, yes we are enroute to sorting my Visa but we're essentially waiting on some paperworks to be finalised before we can get married to get my Visa that way.

Bottom line is, do I have any rights to stay longer as it stands being a partner (and future husband) to a Bulgarian national who also happens to be carrying my baby whilst we sort out my Visa from an immigration standpoint?

Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to read this! 🇧🇬

Side note: No, I don't intend to move here permanently as I work full-time for a UK company (albeit remotely), I essentially plan to be around on a semi permanent basis coming in and out of the country for work, family, friends ect. (much like it was before Brexit I suppose).

Wait until you get married.

Welcome to the expat.com forum and good luck with your move (and baby, and marriage)!

As @Anastasija_gust advises, you should wait until you're actually married, and then get your D visa. And, until then, use your 90-in-180 visa-free allowance. There is no status that allows you to get your D visa now, as they recognize student and pensioner, but, unfortunately, don't recognize dad-to-be or husband-to-be. :-)

@gwynj  thank you for the reply!

Seems that way, just sucks I can't be here to support her physically. I was sure there was a way but this seems to be the only way sadly.

The other way round (she comes to UK with you) might be possible. I think the UK does have a fiancee visa... and I think the UK allows 180 days visits instead of 90 days. But I'd be concerned about her access to healthcare/hospitals while there, so I suspect that staying in Bulgaria is the sensible option.

The other option is that Turkey has an easy residence permit (extended tourist visa for 1 or 2 years), and it's a cheap (and nice) place to hang out, and it's quite easy to drive between us. So you could more easily spend time here in BG, then drive over the border (with your fiancee) and stay there for 90 days. Again, as we know your marriage / D visa is coming fairly soon, this seems like an unnecessary hassle/expense.
