Brazil to Require Tourist Visas for Some Visa Waiver Countries

I need someone to help me with and recommend a good date site in Brazil. I want to find a soulmate please.

IMO, This is just a return to normal for Brasil.  Tourist visas were easily obtained and good for 5 years.  Not an insurmountable hill to climb for anyone.  Easy application online, or most travel agents will do the work for you.   As a permanent resident, I do not need a visa so not really an issue for me.

How curious!  Four days ago you had a wife.  I've heard of quicky divorces, but this is a world record.

Sounds a lot like somebody is trying to pull a visa scam.

@abthree no I am not impersonating her, she is my wife and we are planning to go on a vacation but in my country there is no Brazilian embassy except we travel to another country to do the submission so I was hoping to take along her documents and mine to the country and submit for both of us.

@abthree  Haha, the question I ask then was for a friend who was trying to get more information about his application so I use this medium to help him solve that. And I was grateful.

When this was in effect I paid $160.00 dollars for the 10 year Brazilian Tourist Visa. It had the go through the Brazil Consulate. You also need to go through the one Consulate that associate with where your home address in the US. The good new I used a service who when to the Brazilian Consulate for me with my documents passport and got the visa for me. Just off this subject very sad the Mexican Government has started the same process as the US for Brazilian they have to get a Tourist visa at the Mexican Consulate now. My wife and I used to enjoy vacationing in Mexico 🥺

it's very hard to tell, post-covid.  Back in my day, the Chicago Consulate was turning visas around in two weeks.  If you haven't heard anything about a week and a half after submission, it wouldn't be unreasonable for you to email them to inquire about status.

I haven't submitted any background documents--yet--because I am waiting for the hard copies to arrive from the FBI---they won't accept digital documents. I haven't submitted my flight ticket as well because I plan to go in November, and I haven't purchased the ticket.

04/03/23 @hocytek  I thought that the online system required submission of images of the documents with the application, or it would hold it in the system until they were added.  That's not the case anymore?

04/03/23  Just off this subject very sad the Mexican Government has started the same process as the US for Brazilian they have to get a Tourist visa at the Mexican Consulate now. My wife and I used to enjoy vacationing in Mexico 🥺

Thanks for this -- it's good input.  Sounds like part of the recent agreement between the US and Mexico to ease pressure at the US southern border.  Some of the migrants being held on the Mexican side have been identified as Brazilians in the media, even though Brazilians are obviously economic migrants who don't have any plausible claim to asylum,

I doubt that your future Mexican vacations are in any danger:  people who convince the consulate that they plan to come home should still be able to get visas.  It may the Mexican Consulates a while to get themselves organized for it, though.

I have submitted images of my I.D, PASSPORT, Marriage certificate, CPF and my RECIBO DE ENTREGA DE REQUIREMENTS--RER with passport size facial image, proof of residency in Brazil---desinatario, and also my doctorate degree.

@Viajanete Which is more likely: a US tourist staying and working illegally in Brazil or a Brazilian tourist staying past 90 days and working illegally? I know for a fact that many Brazilians would book the next flight to the US to live and work illegally, especially given the 5:1 exchange rate...

This happen in 2022 All Brazilian citizens who intend to travel to Mexico after August 18th 2022 , must make a prior appointment for the consular interview and analysis of documents. Currently, Mexico has consular offices in Brazilian territory in: Brasília, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. I not sure how long this visa will be good for usually 90 days but since this is a visa that has to be issued before a Brazilian travels to Mexico. Not sure if each time you have to go to the Mexico Embassy to get it. Sorry for the bad news.

04/12/23 The US has announced that the fee to Brazilians for US tourist visas will increase to $185 from $160 on May 30. Expect this to be the fee to Americans for Brazilian tourist visas starting in October.

No.  As long as your Brazilian CRNM  and your US passport are valid, you should have no trouble re-entering Brazil.

@rraypo That great site for information. I look at the example for your RNE card and my doesn’t look like that one. It has some similar information but is a different color and no QRS code. Is this the new one they are now issuing? Does your card look like the example they give.

Have a guess how long a Brazilian citizen has to wait to obtain a tourist visa to travel to the US? These are the latest waiting times if you apply for an appointment today:

Sao Paulo, 615 days

Porto Alegre, 507 days

Brasilia, 493 days

Rio, 478 days

Recife, 449 days

These are the delays imposed by US Consulate offices on Brazilian citizens, not Brazilian delays. No wonder they have cancelled the visa waiver program for US citizens...!!

Incidentally, these numbers are from the US Department of State...

I’m  scratching my face like a cat trying to figure out what route to go with this Visa..

As of right now I can only afford a VITEM IX - investment visa if I open a business with employees ( I have friends that are Brazilians I can employ).

I just entered Brazil around April 15 with a 90 day US visa.

If you're here on a Visa Waiver, you effectively already have a one-time VIVIS, and you can extend it when your first ninety days are up, if you haven't used up all 180 days yet.

All visas since 2017 are temporary visas ("VITEM" is the abbreviation for "Visto Temporário"), so the more useful distinction is between immigrant and non-immigrant visas. Most VITEM visas are immigrant visas, VIVIS and a few VITEM visas are not.

CRNMs can be issued to people in Brazil on immigrant visas, but not non-immigrant visas.

The Justice Ministry, through the Federal Police, will also issue Authorizations for Residency, with CRNM, to certain classes of people without a corresponding visa from the Foreign Ministry. This includes refugees and asylum seekers and, more relevant to some people here, the residency based on real estate purchase that @Peter Itamaraca has detailed.

Mexico re-instituted the visa requirement for Brazilians on August 18, 2022, almost certainly at the insistence of the United States to reduce border-jumping from Mexico.  Brazilians who have permanent residency in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, the Schengen Area, or Chile, Colombia, or Peru are exempt, as are physical (but not electronic or one-entry visas) visaholders for the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, or the Schengen Area. 

Brazil and Mexico are pledged to develop a reciprocal electronic visa program, which will make physical visas unnecessary.  At least for the present, Brazil has not imposed a reciprocal visa requirement.

I will be traveling to Brazil with a US passport in about a week. While I won’t need a visa to enter, do you know if this new policy will impact me when I attempt to extend my stay since my extension will be processed after the new policy is in effect and I will have entered with the visa waiver?
