Reliable buses

Are there reliable busses from one town to another? In Puerto Rico?

techdispatch

The metro area has AMA which are regular busses that cover the metropolitan area including Bayamon, Guaynabo, Rio Piedras, San Juan, Cataño, Levitown, Loiza, Trujillo Alto and Carolina......Then we have vans called "Guaguitas Publicas"  also called Transporte de Pasajeros these transport passengers to most all towns island wide. You can find them (usually) parked in or near the plaza in the center of the towns. Throw shyness out the window if you need to ask someone where you can catch the next one to the location your going to. Hope this helps.

I have heard these busses are not reliable. We are 70 years old and have carry-on bags, so we don't want to get another hotel room and carry our luggage across town.

Hello mcelmeel: well sir, I'm not sure what your situation is...are you on holiday, long term vacation/ exploration on the island or just need a 1 time ride...please explain.  Seems you need either a private car with/or without a driver depending on your situation...I'll just refrain from further comment until you supply what your transportation needs are.Cheers!

We are exploring the island. We just want to go from town to town at our own pace.

Hello again...Well, I believe there's about 78 or so towns around the island so your in for a treat. My wife and I have dicussed exploring each one if them as well. Such a great way to make new friends and truly savour the PR culture. I'm thinking your best is to find yourself an older dependable vehicle for little money, find them on classificadosonline....again depending on your situation. If you rather not  drive yourself then I'm thinking since distances here are very close to each other, choose for example say the eastern part of the island, using an uber to transport to a Parador or a guesthouse as a home base, drop-off your luggage then use the local transport buses or vans to explore the

surrouding towns. From there rinse and repeat. Hope this triggers some other ways you can enjoy the Island. Have fun!
