Money level in bank account for D Visa application

My wife (who is Bulgarian) and I are currently in the process of selling our home in Newcastle on Tyne with a view to moving permanently to my wife's home near Shvistov in Northern Bulgaria. We have acquired all the necessary documentation for the D Visa application, including bank statements for the last 3 months. This is to show that I have sufficient funds/income to sustain myself. Does anyone know what that figure is and whether I need to have a minimal residual amount of money in my account?

It should be no problem for a retired Brit, like yourself. I believe the benchmark is the Bulgarian minimum wage (around 400 euros per month) for 6 months (the length of the D visa). But more is better. Your financial means will be your savings as shown by your bank statement and your pension amount, and I'd guess your pension alone is well over this number.

Some folks have found that the Embassy has insisted on a Bulgarian bank account, so please keep this in mind.

You also need a proof of health insurance. So either buy a Health Insurance for Foreigners policy online (about 100 euros), or grab yourself a GHIC, if you don't already have one (I believe Bulgaria will accept this card).

Charlian is correct

An EHIC  OR GHIC is acceptable  so is the pension letter too stating the amount you get.

Plus credit cards and proof of the limit also acceptable..btw..i am retired so is my bg wife..but we live in Pomorie..have done for 15 years..and also lived in Russe..

Good luck.

I'm in the D process and it depends what category you are inside the D.  In my case I've been told minimum 4500 GBP on this side for D application then the equivalent in local currency on in a Bulgaria bank when going for the residency permit.

It may be different if one is on a pension. I think for a pension you need an S1 form from govt and bank to show the money going in. But I'm not a pensioner so I am not 100% sure on that front.
