Special education school?

GuestPoster2823

Hello all,

My family is considering a posting from Washington D.C. to Sri Lanka with my work. I am researching schools, but having difficulties finding any international schools that provide special need services. My son is 13, has autism and requires significant academic adjustments, but has no behavioral issues.

In D.C. he attends a special private school that has very small class size with almost 1:1 instructional aides in addition to the Special Ed Teachers.

Can you point me in the direction of any private special schools in Colombo?

@Cheryl Thanks Cheryl. If I accept the opportunity, we'd move in June/July. I have three children:

  • the 13 year old boy (for the Special School)
  • an 8 year old girl, and I've seen all the previous posts so I have a good shortlist of schools to contact and arrange tours; and
  • a 2 year old boy - we'll wait for a year before looking into options for him.

but I think our decision to move will really come down to whether we can find a special school, or a private school that will allow us to self-fund additional support (e.g. if we paid for an aide).

@SarahD1984 Hi Sarah, I’m an expat living in Sri Lanka (originally from the UK) that works for an online school for SEND students. If you’re open to online learning I might be able to help you, or might be able to offer a bit of a mix of in-person and online support (I live in the south and not in Colombo). Feel free to drop me a message.
