Do not take a chance because people on the internet are giving conflicting opinions.

The last time we checked the official Laos immigration site for someone in this forum, that border crossing was not included in the list of those places authorized to process a Laos e-Visa.

You should travel to the nearest embassy or consulate of Laos in Vietnam, which probably means the embassy in Hanoi or the consulate in Danang (anyone who knows of a consulate between those two cities please speak up).

You can then purchase a simple 1-month entry Visa for Laos and use that on your visa border run.

Simplest might be for you to contact the well-known Visa agent (Lynn) in Danang who can arrange everything for you including the transportation on a visa run to and from Lao Bao.

Take the train round trip from Vinh to Danang.

(to make the trip more interesting, plan a day or two in danang before or after your visa run)

Or go to Hanoi & fly round trip to Laos.

If somebody can show official information to contradict that, please do.

Confirming my previous post information, this list from the official Laos government evisa site:

https://laoevisa.gov.la/info

Port of Entry

eVisa can be used to enter through these following designated ports:

1.             Wattay International Airport (Vientiane Capital)

2.             Lao – Thai Friendship Bridge I (Vientiane Capital)

3.             Luang Prabang International Airport (Luang Prabang)

4.             Lao – Thai Friendship Bridge II (Savannakhet Province)

5.             Pakse International Airport (Champasack Province)

6.       Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge IV (Bokeo Province)

7.       Boten International Checkpoint (Luang Namtha Province)

8.       Boten Railway Station (Luang Namtha Province)

The Laos entry point name across from Cửa khẩu Quốc tế Cầu Treo (Vietnam border crossing) is the Nam Phao Border Checkpoint.

Nam Phao is not on the list.

I truly apologize for misreading your original question.

according to numerous sources I found online, but not on the official Laos immigration website, there is visa on arrival available at the following Vietnam/Laos border checkpoints:

Nam Khan, Bo Y, Tay Trang, Cau Treo and Lao Bao

I will have to justify that as anecdotal evidence because I haven't read it on an official site but it seems pretty clear from multiple internet posts that visa on arrival is definitely available.

(try again)

I had Lao eVisa's email address saved from previous correspondence with them (here, with updated ports here at bottom of post 38), so I sent them an email after reading your post, OB. (Amazingly quick responsefrom them, as compared to the never-a-response from VN immigration emails)

Hello.

I have been told that Lao "Visa On Arrival" is available at the Nam Khan, Bo Y, Tay Trang, Cau Treo and Lao Bao crossings. Is this true? I could not find confirmation on your website.

Also, at which land crossings from Vietnam are Lao eVisas accepted?

Thank you very much. Your reply to me back in June 2022 was very helpful.

Kind regards,

Aidan

I'll cross-post to the Laos Forum

Apparently, "officially" the only land crossing in to Laos from Vietnam where a visa on arrival can be issued is at Lao Bao, Vietnam - Laos border (entering Laos there through the Daensavan crossing). No other land crossing are able to issue a visa on arrival, and no land crossings from VN accept a Laos eVisa.

Cau Treo (Nam Phao crossing) is showing as not accepting eVisa, and not issuing visa on arrival.

I am just a little suspicious about the "official" webpage's information though.

The email received earlier today indicated that Boten Railway Station accepts eVisas, yet the webpage shows that it does not. This in no way affects crossings from VN (it is a China crossing), but it does call into question how current the page's information is.
