Marriage in Ethiopia

Hello,

I am from Slovenia and I want to get married in Ethiopia with my fiancee who is an Ethiopian citizen. I read quite a few forums but still have some questions.

Do I have to first authenticate the documents (birth certificate & proof of single status) issued by Slovenia at the Ethiopian Embassy in Rome?

(The embassy in Rome represents Ethiopia in Slovenia). Do the documents need to be translated into Amharic?

My fiancee asked at the office and they told her that I only need a passport and that I have to be there for 15 days.

Is it possible for Ethiopia to automatically obtain documents from Slovenia? This would be even easier.

Can my three witnesses be from Ethiopia or do I have to bring them from Slovenia - that would be extremely difficult (impossible).

Thanks for any help!

Apply for evisa and you can stay in Ethiopia  as along as you want  you just need to renew visas

There is also visa on arrival

Let me know if you need help

I am originally from Ethiopia

Thanks for your reply but I was asking about marriage in Ethiopia with an Ethiopian citizen.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Hello Ben102

As far as I know, birth certificate not needed for marriage since your birth date already mentioned on passport. But you have to have proof of single status. Any documents issued from foreign country. First you have to attest in Slovenia foreign affair then Slovenia embassy in addis Ababa ( if available) then Ethiopia foreign minister in kasanchis, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It should be translated other than English language. Once attested in foreign minister of Ethiopia in addis ababa, it is accepted in all office in Ethiopia.

I think I adress your question

If you have any question, let me know

Wish you lovely marriage

Hi Ben102,

I recently (three weeks ago) processed single status. Once you obtain your single status from the country of your citizenship, you will need to get the certificate authenticated at Ethiopian Embassy in the the country of your citizenship/residence. You will take the authenticated certificate to Addis, like alibelay1234 pointed, to get another authentication (gets stamped with minimal fee). My certificate was in English and didn't need translation. Once you get the Foreign Minister authentication, you should be able to use it in other gov't offices within the country for six months. Single status is required to be renewed every six months in Addis.

Wish you the best.
