Hello, I'm a Non-EU National & have EU Permanent Residence Card Type - D (I think now it's called Type L). I'm thinking of moving to the Netherlands. Should I need to apply for a separate Work Permit if I move to the Netherlands or I can just move and work with my current permanent resident card?

Any other procedures I should do, in terms of visa/work permit?

Can I renew my PR in the Netherlands, as I would do in Belgium?

Hello,

as you're a permanent resident in Belgium, you can move to another Schengen State and start working without a work permit because you have the L card (5 years of work in Belgium that give you way more advantages than other PR, except for family member of EU)

But if you do the move, you'll lose your PR from Belgium and you'll start from 0 in Netherlands until you get a PR from that country.

If you want to keep your PR from Belgium, you must stay in Belgium and don't leave the country for 2 years if I remember correctly (to be checked)

I think it's best to contact the Belgian authorities to get the best answer.

Keep in mind that working in one country and live in another has also some angles.

Make sure you're get the right information to make the best solution for you.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

If you decide to stay in Belgium but work in the Netherlands (many do), then the Dutch Government have issued a guidance document that may help you; this link will take you straight to it.

I hope this helps.

@AlexFromBelgium I'm actually thinking of moving to the Netherlands permanently from Belgium.  I currently have Permanent Resident - Type D. I got my PR almost 3 years ago. I understood from the comment that I can move to NL & start working immediately. But I'll lose my PR?

AlexFromBelgium

Yep, IF you have the L card (ONLY + E(+)/F(+) card), then you'll not need a work permit to work & settle in another Schengen State. You'll just need to provide an address to register, like usually.

But you've to understand that you'll start from 0 in another country (but with advantage of no work permit).

You'll loose your PR from Belgium after a while, once you settle abroad.

Now if you have family that don't have PR, some paperworks will need to be done in order to depend on you (same story as always), but as a L card older, you've WAY LESS administration to do!

@AlexFromBelgium Thank you for the clarification!

Since I'll lose my European PR (Card D), the new Resident Permit (or any other document) issued in the Netherlands would be valid for a longer time or I'll have to renew it every year?

AlexFromBelgium

it depends on the policy of every country...........................
