How the Scammers Do It in Mexico City

Oddly, there were no taxis available outside

Royal Yak Casino or the nearby traffic circle

after I left the casino at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Eventually, I grabbed the only transportation

I could find -- an unmarked gypsy cab

passing by the Yak entrance.

The guy was a real operator.  Not only a gypsy

taxista who was charging me 450 pesos

or three times the rate I paid for an Uber

to the casino earlier in the night.

He is also a pimp.  Gave me hsi business

card showing a buxom and scantily clad

'chica' on one side and a coupon for a

50 percent discount on Wednesdays

on the reverse side.

He also started asking if I had some interest

in cocaína .. whereupon I promptly ruled that out.

When we arrived at my hotel destination,

he tried to increase the fare from 450 to

600 pesos because he had to do a detour

along the way.  But I had already exited the

cab and told him that a detour is just a part of

doing his business.  We settled back at 450
