Hello all,

I'm an American currently living in Southern California, US, who has been increasingly feeling the pull of the travel bug hehe. I've lived on both US coasts, and on the US Gulf Coast, but lately have been dreaming of seeing Europe.

I have just started trying to figure out all of the complexities of getting myself to a different continent, and of navigating all of the paperwork and bureaucracy to be there legally...and boy it all looks complicated and expensive. Hopefully I can figure it all out by next year, when I should be ready to go, and until then I'll have to make do with watching reruns of BBC programmes over here

I want to visit France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands in particular. For living I'm a little concerned about the language thing. I've got a functional knowledge of Spanish and French...I can generally understand a basic conversation, but have some trouble expressing myself, especially in a "work" environment. I do adminstrative type work here and I'm not sure if my language skills are up to that yet for working in Europe.

Spain or Italy probably have the weather I'm most used to, but Amsterdam is famous for being more socially tolerant. Well except for Ms. Verdonk and that inbergering stuff hehe.

France and the Netherlands would be at the top of my list though, ignoring the practicalities.
