Hi all,

We are 3 Aussies coming to Danang next week for an 11 day holiday, taking in Danang and Hoi An,. We've never been to Vietnam before so any tips on transport and decent inexpensive accommodation in both locations would be hugely appreciated

Thanks Steve

Hello steevjee51 (et alia) :)

Welcome to expat.com.

It's been a while since I've been to Da Nang, but I have fond memories of riding motorcycle down the coast to Hoi An and back.

I stayed in the Hai Chau district. Hotels at that time were running from ~300K - ~500,000 VND per room/night. I've heard from people who've been there recently that this is still the going rate(s).

Hoi An isn't far from Da Nang (took me about 1/2 hour riding down the coast on motorcycle), so transportation will not be an issue. Plenty of mini-vans make the run, hourly. Your hotel will be able to set you up with a carrier. For just a little more money (and a lot more comfort) you can taxi between the two. I won't venture to give you a rate for that as I rented a motorcycle when I was there the whole time.

If you've not yet made hotel reservations for the duration of your stay, my suggestion is to book for the first night or two at a place that looks acceptable online, then wander around a bit the next day exploring options (better facilities, surroundings, night-life etc). There are, literally, hundreds upon hundreds of hotels in Hai Chau district. Same suggestions go for Hoi An.

I hope your first visit to Vietnam is a pleasurable experience.

It truly is a unique place (you'll see!).

Feel free to ask any additional questions which might come up. Lots of friendly folk here at expat.com.

Don't forget to keep in touch after you've had time to experience the area. We'd appreciate hearing your opinion of your visit.
