There are a number of pet rescues and shelters in Barcelona which have dogs available for adoption. Also, be aware of Spanish law on registering pets with local governments in Catalunya, both cats and dogs have to be registered within 60 to 90 days at a local government office. For cats, it is free if the animal meets certain conditions There is a charge for dogs
