If you rent you have a problem, if you own far less, we are owners, we do not have any income, but most savings in EUR (of course inflation is a topic, no doubt about it).

Having a good job and go to your employer, if you are a retiree from another country PROBLEM

If income is not adjusted for inflation, definitely you have an issue.

Sorry for you but as Dutch say

BTW what job do you have?

BTW in Egypt Inflation is also massive as I understand, of course life is difficult no doubt about it.

Again if you are good in your job, you should be paid properly. I am surprised that you live in Istanbul apparently with a job, GOOD, you should consider yourself lucky (in a way). Again if you are good you should get a massive raise, if you are employer is not extatic, just leave.

Advice, own and do not rent (but probably too late for that)

Hi

I was working as a project control engineer in SA but now retired

I opened an online business to sell clothes, bags, and shoes in Egypt but with the crazy prices now it closed a year ago, it is a challenge to stay in Istanbul against going back to Egypt.

I already own an apartment in istanbul

I agree that those who have the means should buy their home.  It is much less hassle and provides peace of mind for the future.  As far as income, I am retired and have my savings in the U.S. stock market.  So fortunately, once I move to Turkey, I will be insulated from the monetary instabilities of the Turkish economy.  But my last visit to Turkey in March, I noticed the price of meat was unreasonably high even after converting to USD.  I have great empathy for those whose income source is in Turkey.  It must be very stressful and difficult life.

Even in EUR or USD things are more expensive (I live in Alanya/Mahmutlar), inflation is one thing (for expats not too relevant I think). But converting to EUR things are also increasing.

Honestly I do not care too much, BUT when we arrived in Turkey in cheap restaurants for 2 it was around EUR 20, now it is 35 (admittedly including tip)

In high end restaurants prices have also increased I would say EUR 50.

Meat indeed has increased quite a bit (I prefer Lamb (after that beef), my wife likes fish so for this we go to a restaurant (VERY WELL prepared and fresh I have to say)

Still I am not complaining, no excessive community taxes, supermarket prices are around the same as in EU, electricity (a lot of nois) comparing to EU is cheap (so is gas for cooking and water for tea, coffee or just drinking). Comparing to Netherlands or Luxembourg (or UK and Hungary) things are VERY cheap.

Turkey in the past was a country for poor retirees, not so anymore. We can pay, we have enough assets, but we are worried.

OK we spend EUR 3 K pm (including taxes, alcohol, smoking, restaurants, ....) But it is comfortable.
