Do I need student visa to go to Germany?

Post new topic

Neck Daniel

Hey, I live in Portugal as a residence with my parents having temporary residence card. I want to go and study in Germany to complete my bachelor degree and return back. I also have TRC of Portugal valid for 2years with dependent with my parents. So, can I have access to study there in Germany direct or do I need visa? And for studying there in Germany do I need to leave or cancel my Portuguese TRC card? Or can I keep it with me together with German TRC card because in the end of the day I'll be returning back to Portugal. And while studying there in Germany, if I keep my Portuguese TRC, will I be able to renew my TRC of Portugal? Plz let me know, if anybody knows about it.

@Neck,

What is your nationality? From your post, you're not Portuguese / EU citizen, as you say in your profile....

Read "DUTY TO COMMUNICATE" section.

If you're not an EU citizen, you'll need a student visa for Germany.

@JohnnyPT Thank you for your words. I'm originally from Nepal. So, I need a visa right? Then if I went Germany with visa, will I be able to renew my TRC of Portugal while studying there in Germany??

JohnnyPT

So, you have to apply for a visa to study in Germany.

And if you don't fulfil the duties of having a TRC in Portugal, link above, your TRC granted by Portugal will be withdrawn. You will then have to apply for a new one.

If I were you, I'd contact SEF and not look for information on forums...

@JohnnyPT Ok thanks, I'm here in Portugal with family visa, so is it possible to renew TRC of Portugal while studying there in Germany?

JohnnyPT

That's not how things work. You can't have 2 TRCs. When you have your German TRC you can visit your family in PT, I think for up to 90 days out of every 180 days.

When you finish your German TRC, you have to apply for your new Portuguese TRC ( this is not a renewal !) .

As I've already said, you should check it with SEF....
