just wondering what are the least expensive options for traveling from the US to Brazil. Are there any freight ships that carry passengers?

I doubt that there are any ocean freighters that would carry passengers to Brazil. If they exist it certainly would be very difficult to find one.

Your best bet would be to contact the major airlines that serve the international airport nearest you and enquire about travelling as a stand-by passenger on a regularly scheduled flight. They quite often will offer fantastic discounts to stand-bys rather than fly with vacant seats.
