Hi, my wife and myself came to Portugal from UK to finalise the house sale here on 14/09/2023, with the intention of staying in Portugal. We are trying to apply for a D7 Visa, we have everything required for the application however the issue we have is that we arrived on a normal entry via Ferry Port at Santander. We have found out that we should have applied via VFS Global for a Visa in London UK at the Portuguese Embassy. We have been advised to go and register on the VFS Global website and book an appointment at the UK Embassy, however there are no available bookings, is there any way we could apply for a D7 Visa whilst we are in Portugal? Currently we have 45 days left out of the 90 days. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, that is not an option. You effectively have not even formally started the application process. You are effectively just here on holiday. To even start, you have to go home and begin the process from scratch, there. This is my understanding of the situation. But i am not an attorney. I am sure others will provide opinions too.

Thank you for your quick response. We were having difficulty obtaining Health Insurance in Portugal whilst in the UK, it's been a lot easier to get it here speaking to someone face to face.

Hi poogies201057,

Visa applications to reside in Portugal are done exclusively on the platform of VFS Global.

My situation was similar and bought an apartment in Portugal but had to return to the States. I was stuck there for 4 months while awaiting my visa stamped passport to be returned to me. Using an attorney in Lisbon it was made quite clear there was no way around the requirement to file from your native country. Sad but true!

@poogies201057 No you must apply via vfs global. Appoiyments for the Uk are released on mondays. Try around 9.45. Yesterday Monday there was 30 available slots.  The first was 20 november and the dates jumped to 27 28 29 30.  i booked 11.15 on 29th ( thus is for my brother) Also some say you can book the premium lounge and can access appointments that way boolingbover the phone but i was told by the consulate guy i spoke to yhat it depends on what visa you are applying for. if its long stay national

visa because this type of visa appointment is held at 66 wilson street there is no premium lounge at this address. Therefore online booking is the only way to achieve an appointment. You must have bank account and therefore NIF to apply for a visa. As you have purchased a house you will have these. I mention this because others may not know who read this post. Also some documemts need notarising in Portugal. So again bear this in mind!
