Character check, criminal record check retirement visa

You need a certificate of non criminal record from your residing country in order to apply for retirement visa. In this case, if you mean MM2H / SMM2H. As long as the certificate mentioned you did not have criminal record, you are fine to apply. You can get this document at your local police department. They will need your fingerprint & small fee to issue this document.

ok So many countries do not work that way (including Australia) they issue a detailed record check. On that document will be anything the individual has done in their past. Including fairly benign incidents rhat did not include prison time, eg: drink driving with a fine. Breach of an intervention order (these can be anything from nothing to maybe serious eg a father spoke to his child on a telephone resulting in breach of an order) or possession of stolen property) for many individuals if the penalty is low (eg fine) it means that rhe incident is very mild eg the guy purchased a stolen TV but didnt know it was  stolen. these are just hypothetical examples of trivial offences. So is the bar set very high? in that if the record has ANYTHING on it? or does it have some level of flexibility eg the aplicant has never been sentenced to any prison time.

Also the opening question asks if living in country for a period of what i read was 6 months on another visa would allow you to get an in country Malay police check thus avoiding having to provide onw from ones own country?

I notice you say 'residing' not 'citizen' of.... So if rhe person had been residing in Cambodia for 12 months could they provide a police check from the nation they werw residing in? (in this example Cambodia).
