Deposit for Long Term Rental

Post new topic

Hello everyone…

I’m trying to establish if all agencies and/ or landlords require two months rent as a deposit.

Our landlord did, but I don’t know if that is a regulatory requirement or simply a preference.

I’d appreciate your views/ experience.

Thanks, John

It seems to me that more and more landlords ask for 2 months deposits, but I think in most cases it's negotiable. I've been asked for 2 months deposit but managed to get the landlord to agree for one month with the help of the agency.

@dandinos Thanks a lot for letting me know. That’s very helpful.

i dont know if they make any difference between mauritian and foreigners but we are directly renting from the landlord and he was just asking for 1 month deposit and the NIC. We are rentibg from december 2022 until present and renewed for another year.

@Vanessa2909 Thanks for your very helpful reply.  I will speak with the agency when we choose our next rental.
