Hiring a customs broker to import a vehicle

Post new topic

Gylla

Hello again!

Considering importing a vehicle for our non profit. I have never imported anything before, and the seller of the vehicle suggested I look into hiring a customs broker to help with the process. Has anyone else done this before with cars, containers, etc?

thank you!

@Gylla

Look at the thread "Vehicle Transport". There are other threads as well.

As Rocky said, there are a lot of threads on here about importing a vehicle. Be sure you understand all the costs involved (shipping, import duty, sales tax, initial registration/plating, etc.) as well as the vehicle requirements - 6 cyclinder or less, no more

than 5 years old,  etc. Unless you are getting a really good deal on the vehicle, you might be befter off buying here.

If you intend to import as a non profit you must wait until all registration is done. Don't begin the process to import before!

Theres a part of Toyota called Gilbrartar Stockholdings that sells vehicles like the land cruiser, and hilux for amazing prices to qualified nonprofits. But we would have to be registered in the Dominican Republic, which were not, only in the US. we’re looking to buy a car now, but it sounds like we will probably buy one that is already here in the DR instead of waiting to go through this possibly two or more process of getting registered in the DR.
