Can someone explain medical review process? Do you have home country physician provide history or just immigration physical by a DR facility? Also what are disqualifying illnesses?

Looks like I am the first to view your question. Immigration here in the DR have their own place/Dr for Immigration medicals. Not sure about other lawyers, but Lishali drove/escorted me to all appointments when I went through the process. That made it much easier. The medical is very easy - just respond to the Docs questions - doesn't take long however might be longer if you have medical issues already.  I do not know about the last part  but I'm sure someone will jump in....

Pretty sure they are looking for transmissable diseases like TB

Certain drugs, like narcotics for chronic pain, disqualify you.  Even with a prescription.  Looking for illegal substances, communicable diseases, general health, alcohol consumption, chest x-ray, tattoos/birthmarks to identify your body in the worst case scenario.  Very basic and quick exam.

I do know of one person denied residency because of a cancer diagnosis. I don't know what her prognosis was at the time of application, but she did die from cancer within just a couple of years. Her husband moved down after her death. His residency had been approved.

We you apply for your visa at the consulate, you have to submit a statement from your doctor stating that you are in good health. That is all that is required for the visa. Once your application for residency has been submitted to Migracion, you go for the physical. Pee in a cup, have blood drawn, chest x-ray, and the interview with the doctor. Be sure to disclose any medications you are taking, including OTC!

We've heard of many folks being denied residency for cannabis! It might be perfectly legal where you come from, but it needs to be out of your system when you go for the physical.
