I'm getting nagged at

Here we go ...

I spent something less than Rp.5 million ($322) on beautiful, amazing electronic toys I will get hours of work and pleasure from.

My wife spent Rp.7 million ($451) on some crappy jewellery that doesn't look much to me.

I'm getting nagged at for wasting money, but I said nothing to her about her crap.

Which of us is right, and which one is a nagging cow?

Any answer that suggests I'm wrong won't be read. 1f601.svg

Why do both of you spend money on such crap?

Instead, invest it in lasting values like a house or education for your kids!

And she loves her stuff.

Since you have the money, there is nothing to worry (and nag) about. Or is there?

The point is, I'm the nagee, not a nagger.

Is this acceptable given she's spending more?

01/05/23  We have a joint account that we both have access to and fund to an agreed-upon level every month, and from which all of our household and joint expenses are paid.  I have my account that only I can access, my husband has his own account that only he can access.  As long as the joint account is fully funded, neither offers opinions on expenditures from the other's personal account unless asked.

It's not a setup that will necessarily work for everyone, but it works great for us.

@Fred

maybe she sees the jewelry as an investment and the electronics as an spent that you won't be able to sell for the same money you paid for it... I usually get the same issue unless I get an electronic that can be useful or interesting for her...

She does, but sell electronics????

I rarely sell anything, but I have part exchanged Samsung phones.

The item in question is a second hand communications receiver that was crazy cheap and will give hours and hours of pleasure for many years to come.

It's not like I have too many toys. I only have 2 hand held VHF/UHF tranmitters, one dual band car transceiver, the communications receiver, a HF transceiver, a small, hand held 500khz to1300 mhz Icom receiver, 6 laptops, only 3 tablets, and I'm down to 3 phones.

The 5 displays and other bits and bobs are hardly worth a mention as they are so obviously essential. One of the Chromebooks and one monitor is purely for work, as is the 8" Windows 11 laptop.

It's not as if I wasted money on these essential items, and I even went so far as to buy a portable hotspot so I don't have to use expensive SIM cards in each device (except the phones, of course).

The last receiver, an amazing bargain, was the nagging trigger, then she said she wanted more gold.

Of course, being an example of a perfect gentleman and terrific husband, I avoided pointing out her glaringly obvious incongruity.

However, I think my eyes gave me away because she shut up and hasn't nagged me about electronics for hours.

Win !

Sorry, I forgot to mention my recording studio and a few other things.

Understandable omissions as they are such common household items. 1f642.svg

Fred, after reading this I think she is fully justified in buying golden faucets and decorating herself like a Christmas tree!
