I think that may be a mistype of 2025 instead of 2024 in the report... It does not make sense to delay again, since the e-visas are now available, and have been for a few months.

@Peter Itamaraca

Hi Peter!  Not a typo.  I have seen it on a couple other sites now as well... But nothing on the US Embassy or

Gov. br sites yet...

@MA22

It could be Chinese Whispers - if you know what I mean?

According to my attorney there has been nothing published in Brazil about this change, and e-visas have already been granted - to my certain knowledge.

I had read that the house was about to vote on a bill that

would have revoked the government's decree entirely, so

Congressman Alencar Santana, a deputy whip for the government,

said the Lula administration would revoke the Visa requirement.

After the pledge, the house agreed to withdraw it from the

voting agenda.

The article I had read implied that it was completely removed

rather than just another year delay.  I guess we will find out

soon.

Edit:

@ma22 Just noticed that I was referencing the article that you were referencing in a link from the Brazilian Report.  That article seems to imply that it wasn't just a year delay, but permanent.  Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I was also curious what was going on with Brazil and the USA VWP.  Looks like it is due to the percentage of visitor visa refusal rate - which you'd think in 2024 they could come up with a better method of determining overstay rates.

I just spoke to a friend of mine in Brasil.  He sent me this:

https://valor.globo.com/politica/notici … 2025.ghtml

and he told me that he had heard on the radio today that Lula signed the decree yesterday.  So, no Visa is needed now until April, 2025.  I wish that Lula would get with Biden and figure out a way to get Visa Waiver for Brasil.

Pablo888

Dang.  I already spent 3 x $80.90 to get this e-visa that I will probably never use....

mikehunter

@Pablo888 Maybe... who knows... the visa should be good for 10 years, so maybe you'll get 9 years out of it... or not..

Peter Itamaraca

It is still a little confusing, given that Japan was included in that headline (they have a 3 year exclusion deal) and not Canada...?

Ga Ci2

Does this mean that currently Americans do need a visa or an e-visa to enter Brasil?

Ga Ci2

I am asking this, because my Nomad visa is going to expire a month before I am able to

go back to Brasil.

Thanks

mikehunter

@Peter Itamaraca Yeah, that was a separate agreement that was done months ago.  As I understand it, the Brasilian congress was going to vote to nullify the Lula visa decree.  Lula decided to kick the can down the road for another year rather than have his decree eliminated by a congressional vote.

mikehunter

@Ga Ci2 Currently the visa requirement has been delayed until April, 2025.  So if you travel before that date, you don't need a visa.  Of course, this is all subject to change, considering how often it has bounced back and forth already.

@Peter Itamaraca

I read something on the Brazilian Report newsletter about this,,, 2 days after I received my visa!

@rlane

Bom dia- Sorry to hear this!  But isn't your new visa still going to be good for the next 10 years?  So, you won't have to deal with this issue again next year April 10, 2025, when this (potentially) becomes a reality...

Peter Itamaraca

Announced officially today in Brazil - extended to April 2025!!!
