It seems there must certainly be a difference between REMAINING in Vietnam on a TRC about to expire (30 days or less) and ENTERING Vietnam on a TRC with less than 30 days validity.

I'm not claiming to know the definitive answer, but this question is probably best addressed at an immigration office OR at the airport BEFORE departing the country.

Try not to be vague but instead tell them an exact date when you'll be returning to Vietnam (government officials don't respond well to unspecific hypotheticals).

Also, verify your options should you have difficulty reentering:

Will you be able to get a short-term TT visa at the airport or would you be better off covering yourself with a tourist visa?

Also, when is your passport due to expire?  It may affect the term of your next TRC.

Thanks. Asking the most specific question possible is very good advice. I've tried some general queries but not gotten answers back yet. Also a good idea to allot some extra time at the airport to ask about this on my way out.

@SteinNebraska Good point. My passport is good for a few more years, but the issues around passports remaining valid for six months beyond certain approvals is what got me thinking- and worrying- about how valid a TRC might need to be for a hassle free entry to Vietnam.
